the ladies are LOUD today.

the best thing about beekeeping is the drama. it’s been a game of thrones year for our hives already. hive #3 murdered their queen on the second day of her reign and then defected to hive #2. yesterday I drove an hour and a half north to pick up a replacement nuc for the abandoned hive. it was a real cute facility with a LOT of nice looking mead that I’m really looking forward to trying. driving back from Middle Of Nowhere: Hills N Mills Edition to Middle Of Nowhere: The Black Marsh in a diesel pickup truck with a medium iced black from dunks, my dawg, and a box fulla bees on a beautiful spring day probably added like a year to my life, I’m sure of it.

while I was moving the new hive #2 in I checked up on all the other hives and discovered something even more shocking. hive #10 has undergone civil war. about half of the swarm has evidently joined hive #5 (whose comb runneth over so hardcore for a brand new hive in may I needed to give them a second super already) and — even more scandalously — even though many stayed in #10, on the farthest side of the hive from the current queen, those who remain have secretly created five replacement queens that they will pit against each other in a fight to the death, in order to send the victor after the current monarch to kill her and usurp the throne. this dark and solemn ritual is known as a supercedure and it’s the first time I’ve seen it in real life. I’m on the edge of my seat honestly — in the next couple weeks I’ll find out if the coup is successful and the new queen is established. as soon as I see new brood I’ll call it a success… and I’ll steal some babies from hive #5 to recoup some of the losses because as we all know Larvae Ain’t Loyal.

honestly talking and thinking about bees makes me feel like a lunatic because they are such interesting animals, I’m so so so lucky I get to work with them, and I really want to get very good at this (I’m mid at best at this point lol).

Yep, Aris and Arcana are sharing a questionable nest and Corona is nesting in the barn with what I am going to guess are a few dud eggs (since Polaris was in horny jail for being an asshole) and one (1) egg from Arcana/Indie that I'm hoping goes and hatches for her. I have no idea if any of the eggs under Aris and Arcana will hatch; they shared a nest a few years ago and did fine. Aurora and Eclipse did Not do fine this year. There's also some of Eclipse's eggs in the incubator, which should be hatching a few days after Aris' do, and I'm HOPING that I will be able to just shove those babies under Aris overnight, because all babies belong to Aris and her interminable motherly rage.

So I might have gotten so thoroughly distracted by Veilguard that I kinda forgot this blog exists. >.>

We haven't really done anything since the last post. I did keep up the breeding and the thylas and archelons are finished, just need to raise the turtles. They actually gave us 6 perfect babies in the end, so we have our breeders plus a pair for each of us. \o/

We're kinda just waiting for Extinction now, planning to get on it as soon as we can and get a good base spot. I know what I want to build, even did a test build in single-player to show Kel, but it's staying a surprise here until it's done. >.>

I discovered where the wyvern trench is on Reverence and went to see it a couple days ago but had a major disappointment. The trench itself looks amazing and I did have wyverns spawning, but it's in a cave. And ALL the caves on that map have the teleport bug where if I'm not walking on the ground I get teleported up above it. And since the wyvern nests are all up on the walls, I can't get to any of them. >.<

I may uninstall the map once I've tamed a 140 giga I found. I've been wanting to play Astraeos or the official maps more anyway, plus I just found out the creator of The Volcano has finally ported it to ASA so I want to get that installed asap and check it out. So I could use the hard drive space anyway.

Playing subnautica again and struggling a lil bc I set rules that I wouldn't panic-cheat w console commands this time

so base building has been a lil slow but I'm having fun!! I thought it was high enough to not have a problem with a tube I wanted to build to my bedroom so I just stacked it on top like a lil attic instead

Also, I found a time capsule!!! There was a water filtration suit inside which is a massive boon for me bc I struggle keeping enough water, not so much with food
